Robbie Chapman Art
I live and work in the Cotswolds in Gloucestershire and it is this local landscape that provides me with endless inspiration and has become the main subject for my artwork. My contemporary semi- abstract pieces are influenced by my own direct experience with the landscape as it changes and reacts to the seasons, weather and time. I predominantly make mixed media paintings that have developed from photos taken whilst immersed in this environment whilst out walking or running. In these studies I aim to capture the beauty, mood and atmosphere of a place and show a fleeting personal momentary connection.
I studied Sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art where I gained a Masters of Fine Art degree, but I now mainly express my ideas and concepts through painting. I have a deep fascination and appreciation of the properties and characteristics of materials. I particularly enjoy layering and combining media, experimenting with different marks, textures and effects that contrasting materials can offer.
